3/4 of the way there…

So both girls are a bit more than 3/4 of the way to their birthdays… meaning that I will have a 3 year old and a 1 year old in the very near future… How crazy is that I figured this means I am long overdue on an update about what the girls are up to these days. So here goes…

Emilie

Emilie turned 9 months old this week and is in to EVERYTHING. If she can break it, bite it, rip it, eat it, chew it, feed it to the dog… she is on it! She now has six teeth and is eating anything and everything (except baby food… she would much rather have the real deal!)

She has recently learned the difference between Mom and Dad and will look at us if we say mama or dada. She can say both but uses them inconsistently. She does get Mama right in the mornings when I come in and get her from the crib and today she started crawling on to my lap and resting her head on my leg while saying Mama (might be the cutest thing I have seen recently!) It should come as no surprise that she says Mama since she is, without a doubt, a Momma’s Girl. Emilie’s favorite place to be is resting her head on my lap or shoulder. She spends a good part of her day in the carrier just so I can get things done.

Emilie also has learned to wave bye bye and likes to wave at the neighborhood kids. She watches them and definitely can not wait until she is mobile… which won’t be long as she is already cruising  and starting to stand without holding on to anything for a second or two. Having said that, I am in NO rush for her to become more mobile as I am pretty sure that will mark the end of my sanity.

Lily

Lily is amidst the terrible/terrific twos and with that brings huge smiles, huge tears and huge tantrums. She will tell me, “I very love you, Mommy” and then turn around and hit her sister (Em has a bruise to prove it!).  The good news is she is beginning to understand her emotions and has begun to verbalize frustration (“I am frustulated, Mommy!”) and anger. The hardest part is remembering she is only two since she often looks and acts so much older.

Lily’s favorite game at the moment is dressup and she often will dress up as a princess and dance for hours with her imaginary friends. She has, at last count, three imaginary friends, Mr. Emilie, Hip Hop Harry and “Friend”. She does a lot of role playing with them and often reenacts situations. For example, last night she pushed one of her friends outside and this morning she reenacted the scene with Hip Hop Harry and put him in timeout for pushing.

Lily is learning her letters and numbers and can identify the sounds that many of the consonants make. She likes to chalk draw “letters” and shapes and just learned how to draw her first person using our touchscreen computer. (Mom helped with the circle, but the rest is done by Lily!) She then proceeded to draw her best friend (the most patient 7 year old in the world!) Annabelle on the sidewalk, on a card, on my fridge and on the bathroom wall with bath crayons! I asked her if she wanted to draw me, she looked me up and down and said, “No.”

So as you can see, the girls are growing up way too quickly and time is flying by. (I can’t believe it is is practically August!) We will continue to put up pics of our adventures, especially Aunt Tiner’s wedding where Lily is going to be a flower girl!

Because my children aren’t photographed enough…

So Lynn went and got herself a fabulous new Nikon and now you will be seeing even more pics of my kids… She made a folder on her Flickr page so be sure to check out some shots from yesterday’s party…

The final verdict…

So Seth and I went back and forth on whether bringing the kids on the cruise made us insane or not, and I have to say when it was all said and done… it was a perfect family vacation. Sure there were tantrums… my children hate sunscreen and that just was not a good mix and Lily did get on Carnival Camp probation for hitting after someone spilled her juice (she still seems to think this was totally acceptable since he did spill her juice!) but at the end of EVERY day, Lily walked back into the room and said, “This was the best day ever”. I think I would agree with her.

We did so much on the trip and also a whole lot of nothing. We saw shows, ate lots of junk food, ordered breakfast in bed but most of our time was spent taking in the views and hanging out by the pool. Lily’s favorite part was eating dinner with her friends and getting to order like a big kid without Mom and Dad there to bug her. (Mom liked this part a lot too! Ha!) Emilie just took in the sights and despite getting 4 new teeth on the trip was generally just happy to be there.

But the best part was just getting to spend time as a family. Some of my favorite moments were in our room just playing and laughing and having fun. So… Overall the trip was a huge success… how do I know? Well there aren’t nearly enough pictures of all the fun stuff we were doing… and this means we were just having too much fun to even bother getting out the camera.

We’re Back…

We got home safe and sound after an amazing adventure on the Carnival Pride. It was a great trip for everyone. The girls had a fantastic time and Seth and I even found time to read our books and relax! More about the trip later… but for now I have put some pics on Flickr for you to check out!

Sailing Away…

The countdown is here… in 48 hours we will be pulling out of Baltimore headed toward Grand Turks. I don’t think it is possible to be more excited. Looking forward to getting some time with the family and taking advantage of all of the fun things for us to do while we are there.
